I think i would define it as the new hippie music. At least something along those lines. It's like psychedelic rock meets experimental jazz meets thrash metal meets progressive rock. Love it. Why didn't I find out about these guys sooner?!?!

I think i'll go watch their live show again (friend has it on DVD)

Started a thread on these guys a month back to try and spread the word. Sick music.
Id say Rush meets Floyd meets Green Day with a sprinkle of Radiohead.
All I have is "De-Loused in the Comatorium". Waiting till I get sick of it to move onto "Frances the Mute".
If you like this type of Prog, def. check out Porcupine Tree.

After a few weeks of overloading on Porcupine Tree, I'm now O.D.'ing on The Mars Volta. This band certainly is addictive, expecially if you can get past the singers voice. I hated them at first, but after a few listens I really warmed up to the sound.

At first I thought L'Via L'Viaquez was the only good song from Fraces The Mute, but I'm starting to like the others after giving it chance. I don't think this album is as good as De-Loused...but it's up there.

yeah he's a bit out of tune, but it's all about raw energy in my book. he gets INTO the music and that's what makes him interesting to listen/watch.

oh btw try it with some 'herbal system tweaks' it'll make things a lot more enjoyable

I wish those herbal tweaks were legal and/or my company didn't do drug tests.

I too wish THE Mars Volta's singer would relax a little. If the music were mastered with a little more dynamic range, it was a little slower, and had a different vocalist, I'd be in heaven listening to this.

As it is I'm more into Frequency Fall than TMV.

my wife just caught me listening to The Mars Volta - "Could you please turn that off? That is the worst music I've ever heard!" Oh yeah!
