Mark-ups of Monster Cable

More than likely true. Most cable manufacturers mark up their products like that. If you ever installed a car stereo, the wiring harness' usually cost $15. Well the wholesales on them are closer to $2.

This is only the retail mark up not the Monster Cable mark up.
Typical food chain:
Monster->wholesaler -> retail

80% mark up is actually reasonable. Clothing typically have an even high mark up.

However, in general cable, CD wallet, etc have much bigger mark up in US. If you go to China Taiwan etc., you can get them at almost one tenth what they're selling for here.

most 'as seen on TV' necessitates at least 600% -900% markup to justify the increased marketing costs

I honestly have no idea how much the raw cable and connectors cost. Seriously, is BJC marked up high?

Gez, next time I go to the movies, I sure as hell won't buy popcorn. What's that stuff cost? $.20, and they charge $3! What a rip off!

Come on people. What do you think Walmart pays for a $12 T-shirt... About $4... if that.

Probably true...and you can't buy a T-shirt for much less than $12, or you could spend $50 for almost the same thing elsewhere. They both will serve the purpose equally more or less.

The last cable that I bought was Pro Co that cost under $20. I believe that it performs no different than an $80 or $160 cable of same type and length.

I can live with a 300 or 400 % markup when the difference between is $10 or $15 but when that becomes $100 to $150 I have a problem when there are other more sensible choices.

Any monster cable cost more than a BJC counterpart of similar quality, at least the double, the BJC are done with very well known and proved materials for years in the pro audio industry, and do not hide anything, they simply sell Belden and Canare, and very very good manufacture, second to none, and for less than $35.00...

Monster cable materials are from unkonwn manufactures, the manufacture is far from being optimal, I have a few splitters and the soldering sucks, and they offer their own plugs, that maybe cost cents to them...later on they use a huge marketing strategy, and huge stores to sell them, and final result is a killer price to us...

Even though I consider monster cables not the worst out there price performance wise, and they are decent, I have seen a lot worst rip off cases for a lot more money, just do a search and will find a couple around...

I bought a 50 foot HDMI cable a year ago or so from BJC for $100 shipped. Recently I've seen 35 foot Monster HDMI cables on the cheap for $200.
