Marantz CDP

I'm about to pull the trigger on the Marantz cd5001. Is there any other players that I should be giving a serious look at? I know that there are nads and sony cd players that can be had in this price range, but this sounds like the best buy from what I have researched.

I'll be using it alongside a bereseford tc-7510 just to get more use out of my cd's.

Are you sure it's worth getting a bespoke CD player when you're only going to use it as a transport? I have heard that the Beresford isn't so strong on timbral accuracy so depending on what you listen to you might find you prefer the Marantz onboard DAC, but if it's a transport you want I doubt you'll hear much difference at this level between the Marantz and a supermarket DVD player.

X2 - I have a Marantz CD player and a Philips DVD player - used as transports they are (to me) indistinguishable.

I am not going to use it as a transport. I will use it as a source as well. I have read about the dac it uses and it seems like it will suit my taste. Sorry for the confusion.

the CD5001 is a great unit. I had a philips dvdp that it replaced and I've never looked back. for the $ I don't really think it can be beat.

So far I'm finding the CD-5001 somewhat un-natural sounding, compared to the PS1 and the PDR-509 I ran before. But I've only had it a week or so.
