Marantz CD6002 or CD5003 or an inexpensive DVD player instead such as NAD T514?

After years of not using a dedicated CD player I want to get one again.
My PC is not always on anymore and I do not want to have to power it on to listen to music, it is that simple
smily_headphones1.gif

Requirements:
-up to 250 Euros
-mp3 playback
-decent analog circuitry (will hook this to a MAckie 1640 desk and E-Mu PM5 speakers)

I used Marantz CD5001 a few years ago and this is my reference.

Should I go for Marantz CD5003 or stretch for CD6002? Or look elsehere-where?

Please share your opinions/comments

Also: would anyone here know how these compare to inexpensive DVD players from brands associated with decent audio gear such as e.g. NAD T514?

Cannot find any info about analog components for this or similar NAD models (DAC/opams)

Any help/guidance more than welcome.

Hi Behemot,

I did an A/B comparison yesterday.
The setup:
Marantz SC-11S1 Control Amp
Marantz SM-11S1 Power Amp
Mordaunt Short Avant 904i Floorstander

I listened to the CD6002 first, I expected to hear better things than I did.

Then I listened to CD5003 and I was totally spaced out to a point I felt giddy. The sound was all over the place, not distinct-all-over-the-place, but spacey-all-over-the-place like when there's too much echo in your karaoke system.

Then I listened to the CD6002 again to affirm my feelings. Ah yes CD6002 is the better one, I was immediately brought back to reality.

CD6002 sounded more enjoyable with distinct instrument placement (left-right, front-back), good clarity and good dynamics to the instruments and vocals.
