I just found out that my parents have an old NAD 2155 amplifier and a Marantz 2230 reciever they will give me, and I guess the marantz has preamp outs on the back that will feed the NAD amp. Would these be good components? I have read alot of good reviews of the marantz 2230 on this forum but found little here or elsewhere on the amp. Would this be a good setup or should I maybe look for a separate preamplifier?
It will be used with a dvd/cd player and I'm still looking to build some highend speakers.
Thanks.

I live in the midrange!
I own both an NAD 3155 (integrated) and 2155 (power amp) that I bridge and use together. They are great amps, and you should be very happy with your 2155.

I'm not so sure about the Marantz 2230 as a pre-amp. I own a 2260 (I think that's right) integrated amp that I use in my den (pretty good headphone out, BTW...). I'm not certain, but I think it has a pre-amp out...I would think it would be pretty good. I use an ASL OTL-32 as my pre-amp, as I liked adding tubes to the '55's.

Nice find, btw!!

i think you will be more happy than angry. i bet the Marantz 2230 will serve well as a headphone out too - a bit thin and very solid state, but still darn good. thank your folks for these!

I have a Marantz 2225 that I use as a pre (for a CD player, turntable, and iPod) and it does a good job, so the 2230 should do fine as well. I'm using tube amplification (Song Audio SA34) so can't comment on the NAD amps.
