I've had two of my cars serviced at Jiffy Lube in Lomita, CA on the PCH. It's a really small Jiffy Lube, and I always sit outside right in plain view of the car, watching what they do. I see them do the flushing and changes right in front of me.

Sucks that this is happening. Not everyone has the time or resources to DIY their fluid changes and maintainence.

For one, I live in a condo with a parking lot, where it is NOT permitted to do car repairs or servicing in the lot. (other than basic stuff, like washing, waxing, detailing, etc.)

So many of us risk getting screwed, but I always like to watch when stuff is being done to my car, but some stuff takes a long time so unless you want to stand there for 4-5 hours straight, you roll the dice there.

But marking the old part ahead of time is a great idea.

its especically fun when the quick lub places use the "6-cyl oil filter" on your 4-cyl car and siezes the engine because it dosnt seal and no oil pressure is there....

this happened a few times when the saturn l-series was newer, and still happens in fact. what TRULY sucks is when the lube place gets away scott free.

I've dealt with them in the past, and I always refused any service other than the oil change. I have to admit, some of them were quite honest (local small places in Madison, WI), but often times they were bit clumsy and spilled engine oil all over the engine and never really wiped them off clean. I ended up going to my Honda dealer for both of my cars and saved hassle. Believe or not, dealers are often cheaper for oil lube and filter (around $15.95 for the part&service if you bring your own oil), plus you can free car wash, interior cleaned, free coffee/soda/donut. It's no brainer!

It's all about money. But Jiffy Lube has a really bad track record repeatedly ripping people off and screwing things up left and right.

Beside that stuff....

Some of the techs are clueless. Once or twice I brought my wife's car in and did watch them like a hawk and thank goodness too because they almost put the wrong type of oil in the car as well as incorrectly installed the filter. I had to actually get down in the pit and help the tech. It was almost comically, but after that I never went back.

That district manager, what a scum bag, trying to pass himself off as a customer.

I don't take any of my cars to those lube places any more. I have heard too many horror stories. A friend of mine took his pickup to a local place and they overfilled the oil causing the rear main seal to blow on his way home. I change the oil on my old cars at home, and the newer car goes to the dealership for service.

The way the location managers wanted to speak to the district manager, plus the actions of the district manager, make it seem very likely he was behind the whole scam. I was charged for the same transmission service by a quick lube place ( forget the name ) which was never performed as well. I wasn't really paying attention while they were doing the work, but they had told me at the beginning they would be doing the transmission flush in the building next door after they did the oil change, and I did notice the car never went next door. I believed them when they told me it was an oversite and then quickly took care of it, but now I'm not so sure.
