I received this SACD a few days ago...just popped it in. Man , Tiny Dancer, Levon, and the rest sound better then I've ever heard them.

I've always loved Tumbleweed Connection, Madman, and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton...I just wanted to check out one of these on super audio. I think I'll be buying more soon.

That's very good news. Did you listen to it in stereo or multichannel? Is the CD layer any good?

I listen to SACD's in two channel only. The CD layer sounds fantastic as well!

I'll have to pick that one up Rick. I would love to find a DCC 180g copy of it but they are rather costly even if you can find one. I did pick up a 180g pressing of GYBR off Audiogon. Not the MFSL pressing, but a very good one none the less.

But even at that Jon, you wouldn't have the remastered version. This is without a doubt the finest sounding pop/rock SACD remaster I've heard so far.

I've just ordered Tumbleweed Connection and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

OMG, that place has Captain Fantastic!!!!! I didn't know these were out on SACD. I have Captain Fantastic, Good Bye Yellow Brick Road, and Rock of The Westies on LPs that I bought in the 70's. I may have to break out the money for these. They mean a lot to me. Good Bye Yellowbrick Road was our senior year theme song.

edit I just ordered Captain Fantastic and Madman from that link RickG provided. They only had one Madman in stock, I hope it was still there when I made the order.

Does any of the two layers sound as good as vinyl? Hope you are in a position to do that comparison.

My Classic Records reissue of Goodbyoe Yellow Brick Road beats any CD I've heard to date, but I've heard that good SACD can be quite close to good vinyl.

Wow, people over at steve hoffman's site are mostly really hating these, but they are sometimes quirky about what they approve of, they seem to think these are too compressed and bright. But they said that about the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road SACD too, which sounded great to me, much better than the 1995 remaster anyway. I'm gonna wait and see other reactions before I jump on these though.

I received my GYBR 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition SACD set and I think it sounds wonderful. The packaging is fantastic. (Makes me wonder why Capital can't reissue the Beatles' stuff as classy as this). Sound wise, it's a toss-up between my Classic Records LP's and the hi-rez disc's. The SACD's may sound a bit more compressed (not much) but they're so damn clean sounding. The LP's have a fatter sound but are noisier.

Also received in this shipment was Tumbleweed Connection on SACD. This is a KILLER. I have the Mobile Fidelity Gold Disc and the new SACD just rises above in every sonic respect. There is no comparison.

After purchasing three of the new Elton John SACD's, to my ears, they sound simply incredible. I know there are other opinions out there, but I'm amazed every time I hear these.

I won't be receiving my CDs any time soon. Both of the ones that I ordered are now back-ordered. I knew I was cutting it close on Madman because the site showed only one available when I made the order.
Oh well, I guess I'll live.

Today one of the two I ordered came in.
Madman Across The Water.
After fiddling with the receiver and DVD player settings I finally got SACD multichannel to come out of the speakers.

GAWD, this is well done. I love the way they did the multi channel mix. Now I gotta run and adjust the sub down a bit from the "movie" setting.

I finally got my copy of Captain Fantastic today!
That took long enough.
Same great surround sound.
I haven't heard this music since I don't know when. I have this album on vinyl that I bought when it came out in 1975. I have not had it on any other medium. They did include 3 bonus tracks, including Philadelphia Freedom, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds and One Day at a Time.
I enjoyed listening to this album. It brought back memories of my youth. I dug out my LPs, and descovered another Elton album that I would like to see done this way. That would be Rock of the Westies. It's kind of a toss up which album I like best between Rock of the Westies and Captain Fantastic. Of course I haven't heard Rock of the Westies since probably the early 80's.
I need a turntable!
