Used to be "Made in Japan" meant quality product. Now it is pretty hard to find mainstream items (CD player, VCR, walkman etc.) that have such label. If given a choice, I'd still prefer an item made in Japan vs. one made in Taiwan. What is your take?

Made in Japan now has an even higher kudos, since the Chinese and the rest can turn out perfectly well made stuff. The fact than that you bother to make something in Japan nowadays means it's either pretty cutting edge or extremely well made.
