Gunnr available here late March. Definately nice as an all in one solution. wouldnt mind trying that either.

As far as I'm concerned, I think the Gunnr is all I would ever realistically tell people they'd ever need. If I had zero dac/amps. Gunnr would be my #1 choice. It literally works a s desktop dac/amp , as well as a portable one without a power supply. Has a mic input, and plenty of power with a crapton of gain.

I don't care for the surround aspect of it, as it just expands soundstage in a weird way that sucks out the bass, but everything else is perfect.

If they made another Gunnr, I would just ask to remove the surround functionality and give us a manual mic gain like the Hel it replaced. Then it would be perfect. The auto mic gain is fine, but I'd like the adjustability. Maybe some AI noise reduction feature on the mic like how we do on Maxwell would also be nice, but it's not exactly NEEDED as most software already has similar options (mainly asking for one for stuff where software is not available, like on PS5 which doesn't have noise suppression options).
Couldn't agree more, all of the dac/amps I have tried including all the HEL's and a litany of others the Gunnr just works and does it for a great price.

I saw on reddit that it was a little deeper than stock, but knowing my experiences with Audio Technica, they're going to be shallow.

It just arrived. I should probably check em out lol.

edit: Oh wow, these weight nothing. Cups seem deep enough for my ears. I don't mind touching as long as it's not fully pressing onto my ears. Clamp is fairly minimal too.

My big old head and the magnetic strap don't mix. It forces the strap to demagnetize on the sides, so I have to wear them a bit bigger than would be an optimal fit. Just slightly

edit: Oh... I didn't realize it's 2.5mm....

I had bought a Meze boom mic cable... so that's on me. :(

Oh, I got an adapter on Amazon, just for this type of r70x connector.

I do think in the price range, for a lightweight dynamic driver headphone, I think the HD490 Pro is just a tinge better overall however. The R70xa seems more neutral/clearer, but the 490 Pro has a bit more body in the vocals and bass. The R70xa bass is still really good however, and doesn't have the zing in the treble that the 490 has.

So really in a short listen I do think they trade blows, but the 490 may be more my preference slightly.

I would not kick either of them out of bed.
I always appreciate your input, I currently have the r70x, but after 2 years of usage, they started to make vibration noises when there is heavy bass - its probably my fault, they are so light that I dropped them at least 20 times while standing up, because I forgot they are still on my head. So I thought about buying the R70xa.

And I know it is subjective but I also have the K712 Pro, which I kinda like (in fact, I liked them a lot before I got my hands on the r70x), but the K712 Pro on higher volumes causes listening fatigue for me. If I listen to them for a longer time or on a higher volume, my ears begin tightening up. If I switch to the R70x - no matter how I set the equalizer or volume, they open up after a few seconds of listening. You can pronounce the low end or the high end by a lot, it doesnt matter, it is so relaxing on the R70x for me compared to most other headphones. I also had the HD800S here for a trying period, but for me there were 2 reasons why I sent them back:
1: If I drop them, 1400 bucks are going down the drain
2: They sound better, but the R70x are doing like 90% of the HD800S for me at a fraction of the price. The HD800s were also heavier, but still comfy.

The only thing I dislike about my R70x is the build quality. But that is probably just a tradeoff for the lightweight build.
I have a very powerful headphone amp, high impedance is not an issue for me.

I am also playing competitive games like Counter Strike 2, where soundstage and imaging is quite important, both the r70x and the k712 pro work really good for me.

I havent tried the Sennheiser 490 Pro yet, but according to rtings their soundstage should be a slight downgrade on paper to the r70x. Imaging should be great on both according to rtings - the r70xa is said to have even better imaging and soundstage, but there is no review yet on rtings, so I cant really compare. Which one would you pick in terms of soundstage, imaging and comfort? I dont need a better low frequency extension, in fact, I appreciate the r70x in that regard because it is probably a part of the relaxing sound signature that I really like.

Agree, ive replaced the creative G6 with the Gunnr. Was going to drop the audio extractor in between the PS5 and the Gunnr, but it really doesnt need it to be honest.

I was looking into the Fosi K7 and found this. Has anyone with the K7 tried it with the Xbox Series X and what was your experience?

The Fosi Audio K7 DAC/amp is a good option for use with an Xbox Series X, offering features like UAC 1.0 support for console compatibility, a dedicated microphone input, and high-quality audio performance.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • Console Compatibility:
The K7 supports Universal Audio Control (UAC) 1.0 mode, enabling it to work with gaming consoles like the Xbox Series X, while still allowing the unit's microphone input to function.

  • Input Options:
The K7 features USB-C, optical Toslink, and coaxial SPDIF inputs, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of digital sources, including PCs, laptops, and gaming consoles.

  • UAC 1.0 Mode:
While UAC 1.0 limits the K7's maximum decoding capabilities, it's necessary for enabling microphone input on consoles.

Hadn't thought to try with the Series X as I didn't think it allowed USB audio without Microsoft certification. It works great on the PS5 but I will try in a bit with my Xbox and report back.

what places have the Fosi K7 for sale?
It was available via Kickstarter only, but it appears now that they've sold all the units they had. The Kickstarter page says to check the Fosi website, but that tells you to back the project via Kickstarter. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Edit: I checked with their CS chat bot and it says the K7 will be available to buy in a few days.

Just watched Joe from Gadgetry Tech's review of the Fosi K7. He was impressed overall but mentioned it doesn't work perfectly with all the microphones he tested with it. Any K7 owners able to chime in on that with your own experiences?

Have only used mine with the Meze boom mic and also a £20 boom mic that connects to my Sennheiser 505s and it's worked great with both of those.
