Think my G8 will be going back sadly - the product page showed Android and iOS app store links for the Creative app which made me think I'd be able to change eq and things on the fly - seems these links have now been removed as Creative have realised their mistake - there is no mobile app support for the G8 so its like the G6 where you need to connect the device to a PC to make changes then reconnect to console. Makes it pretty redundant in my setup.

Plus, if I want to connect multiple consoles (Xbox and PS5) at the same time I need to power this off a wall adaptor into USB1 on the G8. This means PS5 going to USB2 which seems to have a fraction of the volume/power output of USB1 and makes it unusable with anything but the most efficient of headphones. USB1 only on PS5 is absolutely fine?

That's why I sent mine back. They swiftly took the other links down and only the link to the windows app remained. Also, when I used usb c 1 and 2 (power and data) the volume on ps5 was very low compared to running data AND power just on usb c 1. Direct mode was also no accessible on ps5. I then had to pay for my own return label, even though it was creative who wrongly advertised the mobile apps as compatible and only after numerous emails back an forth I managed to get a refund for the label too.

The Schiit Gunnr looks promising, 50 percent more power than an X7 (I've had both the regular and special editions) and no suite of dated software to deal with. A dial to adjust sound stage effect too. I liked trying the Hel just for the big volume wheel, glad they carried it over.

I mean, I haven't had time to review, but the Gunnr is def ace. I could've done without the soundstage dial, and included a mic gain knob instead, but otherwise, it's a perfectly reasonable belief that Gunnr would be all most of us would ever need.

Use it daily on multiple setups (I switch over the usb), and it's been more than anything I'd ever realistically need.

Wondering on some thoughts as I would like to get a DAC with my Ragnarok 2.
I’ve been thinking of getting a Modius e or JDS Labs El DAC 2+ but I wouldn’t mind something that lets me centralize my Sennheiser game one headphones. I was thinking of the CL ae-9 so that I have in theory a solid DAC and the control unit I can connect my headphones nicely when gaming with my partner or friends. Right now I have my hp going to the Ragnarok with an extension and adapter and then the mic to the Pc onboard card mic input.
I hate my onboard Realtek though as I can hear my AMD gpu through it. I am slightly concerned using unbalanced from the AE-9 vs balanced on the Modius or JDS labs.
I tried some Hyperx cloud 3 headphones and kinda liked the virtual dots but prefer the actual sound on my Sennheiser cans so would like to make them work.

I agree usb c-2 just doesn’t sound as good as usb c -1 I think I read somewhere all the decoding is only in 1
