Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)

Just a FYI: Had an issue where my OS was restarting after locking up, and it took me a few months to figure this one out due to lack of Events being recorded. It turned out to be an issue with Redscape's Virtual Audio Device driver and 24H2. I don't know why for sure, maybe it's a deeper issue, but I was finally able to get things stable by uninstalling the app, and therefore the device. Just a heads up in case someone else runs into this.

Ignore all that, turns out it's being caused by some issue with Power Plans under 24H2 and my machine.

Looks like I'll be receiving the Schiit Gunnr soon, and I plan to have a write up for it to post here!

It's been awhile, so this will be what gets me going.

Looks like it should be a good alternative/replacement for both Fulla and Hel, as it functionally works like both. Usb only for Fulla level power, and with a power wart, for more power than even the Hel.

It loses the adjustable mic gain, but still has the auto mic gain of the Fulla.

That and with the new width and vocal presence knobs, should be a nice kit for gamers who don't want all the fancy software.

I did buy a Fulla last month, so I'll probably have some comparison points between them.

Looking forward to it! Wish they kept the larger form factor of the Syn, a direct comparison would be good!

This is meant to be somewhat portable as it can be used without a wall wart as well.

Of course I do wish they'd eventually make a beefy, big box amp with a microphone input for home use.

I guess that would be the Syn? I'm trying to figure out how it's so much cheaper then the Syn but with double the power, outputs I guess?

Anyway I've impulsively bought one, i'll update when I receive it.

I picked up a Qudelix T71 for gaming and paired it with my Beyerdynamic MMX 330 pros, it has hands down the best 7.1 sound I've heard while gaming. It unfortunately only allows for 7.1 on PC, PS5 is limited to 2.0. I also had to pair it with a USB soundcard for the mic because it didn't have in-line mic support.

How is the 330? Thinking about getting one to compliment my LCD GX for gaming.

I love them, I've had the DT 1990, the DT 900 pro, and a slew of other headphones, and they hit the sweet spot of sound for me. They avoid the painful highs Beyerdynamic is known for, the bass is surprisingly good for open back, and they have really decent soundstage.

My only issue with them is the mute button on the cable is not functional.

No, because the Syn is meant more for surround duties, etc. It has half the power of the GUNNR on the headphone out.

The mic input is also way too separated from the headphone out to suit gaming headsets. Y headset splitters don't separate that far.

OK so I understand that surround sound/7.1 and spatial audio (creating a virtual "soundscape" either with actual multichannel output or virtual via stereo) are two separate things. Am i guessing correctly that something like the Qudelix T71 or Schiit's products do the former with a "dumb" upmix/downmix, while you need a different product (Sound Blaster / Dolby / Redscape / etc) to do the latter?

I haven't used Schiit's process, but it's probably gonna be like an analog version of what iFi does to expand soundstage/crossfeed, to lessen the 'stereo' effect. Virtual surround/spatial audio actually takes in 7.1 info and converts that into emulated surround, so it's a more involved/complete process.

I'm sure you'll still want the latter, as you're using real surround info.

I recommend getting the Steelseries GG software for free, which enables virtual sound devices that you tie to your real dac/soundcard and you can enable their version of surround emulation with that with any audio device. I think it's remarkable.

I might prefer it to Redscape or the others.

I hate the muffled effect Nahimic uses for sounds coming from behind.
