Hi!
I have the new Macbook pro, with the last drivers from emu web for mac and vista x64, both OS are updated.
last version of Bootcamp on vista x64 produce high usb latency so i closed this process and deactivated wifi, now the usb latency is over 50ms, alls bars are green. On vista i have winamp with asio plugin, when i play a song with 44,1khz its sound fine, but if i set 96khz playback become with pops and crackles, its normal?... with foobar and asio plug the same at 96khz.... and with asio4all with default settings the same... When i boot on OSX and play songs from itunes using emu 0404 at 96khz the same!..i am really frustated, i cannot play songs at 24/96? or 24/192?.. only 44,1?
I want emu 0404 only for playback songs, i had read here that this is a good dac for use with sens 595.
Someone can help me? please

I think that these cracks and pops is due to usb connection, maybe too slow? i dont know, if i buy a toslink cable and connect optical out from my macbook pro to optical in emu 0404 the cracks will dissapear?, can someone teach me one configuration rig for Hi-fi Headphone playback with this dac?

Thanks!

it is suggested by the hardware vendor; e-mu, to disable possible conflicting devices, wifi is listed as a possible problem.
i think what they meant was any hardware using resources.
i suggest increasing the buffer size and checking for auto updates on the system.
toslink has the benefit of immunity from interference from rf sources. from what i've read, therotically, toslink and usb2 are capable of high speed connectivity. couldn't hurt to try it.
i not framiliar with mac systems, is it possible to assign a higher priority to the audio section?

i don't suppose your playing "pop" music? , jk

How i can increase this buffer size? where i can do? all updates are applied in both systems OSX and Vista x64.
Im novice in mac systems too, maybe some expert can help me?
On windows vista the problem is the same beyond 44,1 khz, pops and crackles occurs, i see buffers parameters in asio winamp plugin and asio4all plugin, how much size i must set?

Thanks

Are you sure your USB cable is not faulty?
using other USB devices?
why do you want to use 96khz in the first place when most music is 44.1khz?

using the e-mu software on my pc i can set the buffer in two ways; one is in the e-mu software (standard 10ms, this is right below the 44.1 setting) and in foobar the buffer is a slider in preferences. if your running vista do you really need asio4all? try doubling any buffer until it comes out clean. since cd is 16 bit 44 why do you need to set the sampling higher. 24/96 still can't make better sound out of nothing. < not pointed at you in particular just a gereral question for the group.

thank for your response!
I have some music pieces recorded in 24/96khz, is for this that i want playback them with his native resolution.
Moreover if emu 0404 say that play this resolutions and beyond 192khz well, because i can´t playback nothing well beyond 44,1, i need special computer? Im noob and before buy this dac i would not know that i would have this problems.
My usb cable is the original taked from de E-MU 0404 box (grey and semitransparent)

I had occasional stuttering problems with my EMU 0404 USB for a while until I dropped my buffering in the actual "Output" tab to 250 ms.

I can set the buffering in the "ASIO Virtual Devices" tab under configuration for the EMU 0404 USB, but I think that as long as this buffering is set to 10-20 ms or higher, it should make no difference.

From brief experimentation, it seems like if the ratio between your foobar buffering and your ASIO buffering to your EMU in the virtual ASIO devices setup is too large (More than a 10:1 ratio is probably asking for trouble, whether consistent or intermittent), the output from foobar becomes desynced from the EMU.

If you wanted to be on the safe side, set a 20-30 ms ASIO virtual device buffer size, and a 200-300 ms foobar buffer size to match in a 10:1 ratio.

Currently I'm testing 10 ms ASIO virtual to 250 ms foobar output. I'll see if I get an eventual desync with this setup. 2 ms to 250 ms desynced rather quickly.

on my 202 it say playback/encoding is capped at 24/96 for the mac. here's what the makers says about the 404 and the mac * Macintosh analog operation up to 96kHz and digital operation up to 48kHz only at this time.

it will be the buffer size and possible conflicts between the setting in the emu control panel and OSX or vista. you should make sure all changes are reflected in both panels. this quote above is irrelevant if you are using the emu as the dac instead of outputting via SPDIF to another external dac; which you are. this would only come into pay if using digital output from the emu.

try audiomidi setup or the 0404 control panel, sorry but I dont have one here, but it should be in one of those; it is definitely capable of it and has for a number of years
