mac + audio player

i guess in sound quality and functionality. i'm very sad that foobar doesn't work for macs

Well, I'm not sure about the sound quality issue (even the makers of Foobar try to minimize the claims of it out there). You may want to check out Audion, MacAmp Lite X, Whamb and XMMS.

The latter especially has a lot of supporters (as fanatical as Foobar

). You'll need to install Fink as it comes from the Linux world, but there's a ton of plugins.

I've used them all, but keep coming back to iTunes. That likely will continue especially with all the support with iPod, Airport Express, Kobu, Squeezebox, etc. I think that's part of the reason some of the above have stopped development.

EDIT: Something else to consider, is using whichever player and sending it real time through Audio Hijack Pro, which opens it up to all the VST plugins in the world, including the very cool (for us) Canz3D.
