I've ordered new headphones, the ATH 50x. I will be listening on my iPod Touch 6th gen. I'm wondering what I need to do to get the full experience possible with these pair of headphones. Will a DAC make any difference? Also, will an AMP be required for these? I purchased the bundle with an amp, but I'm just curious to how much it is going to benefit. Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks!!

My understanding is that the iTouch 6 would have very good audio if it is the same audio in the 6 series phones. In which case, a DAC won't help. Now if you find you are listening at or near the maximum volume with your headphones, then an amp could help.

What amp did you get?

I think most likely, you should be doing just fine.  The M50X doesn't require much to back its sound, and I don't think a DAC or an amp would significantly change things.  I think perhaps the money is better saved for future purchases, but that's just my 2c.

Most of us assume that if you are hanging out on Head-Fi, you will get upgraditis and get further into the hobby

The only problem with that is I'm not rich.
