I've had this card for a while now, it was a pull from an Escient Fireball (media management system). I'm just curious to know how good it card is, from a Head-fi perspective.

The current plan is (once I have a house to wire/install speakers) to use this card in my "server" in a distributed audio scenario, where I'm sure it will do everything I will ask/need of it.

The curiosity comes from not really knowing what the card is capable of or designed for, and how it compares to other solutions in its class.

Thanks

If you're looking for a clean line out it's a good card. I have a revolution 7.1, an audigy and the audiophile card and the audiophile has the only output I can send to my home rig with decent results...but remember...you have to start with a good clean high quality source...

agreed. compared to an audigy 2, there's a significant (better) difference in sound when listening to dvd-audio (note that I only use analog out). as for regular audio-cds, I suppose you can tell the difference if you listen hard enough, but it's not as easy.

So, if you want to quickly and cheaply see an obvious difference, try dvd-audio (assuming you have a dvd-drive).
