Any idea how old it is? Luxman were top of the shop until they got taken over by Alpine in the '80s and then went downmarket and have only really bounced back in the last few years.

I've owned several Luxman components in the past.Always loved their equipment.I'm not familiar with your LV-92 but I would certainly hang onto it.It's prolly from the mid 80's.It would not hurt to open the hood and replace the capacitors.

By the way--sorry about your dad.Sad to hear this ! Mine took a hike when I was an infant.

Not really, by today's standards. Why don't you check out a Cayin?

Good street teaming. Someone asks about an amp his dad left for him, and you suggest he buy cheap chinese clone gear. I hope they pay well for your integrity.

well, sorry to say the amp is only 3-4 years old, so i guess its very alpine,

as for my old man, i still see him, he has some mental issues which make unsuitable for long exposure,

I didn't mean to imply that something left from your father wasn't nice, I was simply stating my opinion in regards to equipment. I meant no offense.

I meant no offense to Aevum, and Cayin makes perfectly good gear. Also, if you are looking for somone worthy of criticism, why not start with a mirror?

. This is Luxman trying to find their feet again period. The '90s was really their low point.

Sounds like a good plan.

Luxman were one of the few major Japanese manufactures to continue refining valve technology well into the 1980's and so their solid state amps also traditionally have a very smooth cultured sound.

They were also one of the first Japanese companies to bring European designers to work for them in Japan. Tim De Paravicini of E.A.R fame was one of their main designers in the 1970's.

I havn't heard any of their recent offerings but they have garnered some very good reviews so I'm sure you be pretty happy with the sound whether you plug it into.

If what you have was indeed designed in whole, or part by Tim De Paravicini of EAR, you may want to look at Sennheiser HD 650's, I use them with a Cardas cord with the EAR HP-4 amp, and they sound quite good; very musical and satisfying.

I'll chime in to this old posta , I repair amps and speakers this amp comes stock with Nichicon caps with higher than normal tequmperature ratings , is as quiet as a mouse and plays music better than most of the equivalent amps of it's time . The only thing I hate are those stupid toggle speaker connections . About to open up my first Luxman tape deck have a good day people and greetings from oz
