First of all, I can't believe it took me this long to buy this CD. Secondly, I can't believe there hasn't been a thread on this yet!

This is an awesome album. If you are a Lucinda Williams fan, and haven't picked this up yet, it's a must. If you aren't a fan yet, get this and you will be. Just get it!

Simply stellar. 'Nuff said.

Jimmy,

I agree that it's a very good album.

You sound like a fan, so I'm guessing that you're familiar with Car Wheels on a Gravel Road and Live at the Fillmore. Those are my two favorite albums of hers, though I do like West a lot.

Lucinda is awesome! If you're new to Lucinda Williams pick up Car Wheels On A Gravel Road first. I agree West is a really good album. It's a shame Lucinda doesn't get the recognition she should. She's one of the best songwriters out there. She'll never get much airplay because she's too rock for the country stations and too country for the rock stations. A few years ago she was touring with Neil Young. Talk about a great show!

I have all the mentioned albums in addition to Essence, World Without Tears, Sweet Old World and Lucinda's Blues. Each and every one has it's influences since she records a lot of feelings and/or situations that are 'close to home' in her life at the time.

Also all of her recordings are first class because she is very stubborn about letting any engineers change her arangements. IIR, Essence was recorded in an empty hall using some of Bob Dylan's band members and and most of the songs on the album are the first cuts. I also have her dvd video of when she was on Austin City Limits which was right after Car Wheels was released. I've also got a couple of her videos, one with her onstage with Willie Nelson doing "Over Time"

It's just too hard to pick a favorite album of hers, they are all fantastic!

This is why I thank my lucky stars that I live in the land of KPIG - carrying on the tradition of the legendary KFAT. Get it online however you can!

I've listened to it a few times, and so far I've liked it, although it hasn't made a lasting impression on me yet. I have (and love) her other works, so I'm sure it will grow on me over time, but it hasn't grabbed me the way Essence and World Without Tears have in the past.

Wow, I'll have to pick it up. I have steered away from it ever since I read a review by someone saying it was a sappy album, repetetive and desperate. Or something like that. Thanks for the heads-up!

This album, West 'is' on the sad/bluesy side. Like I mentioned earlier, most of Lucinda's work is directly influenced by real life situations and this album was released shortly after her mother passing away and attending her 'Fancy Funeral'

New album coming - "Little Honey"

Just thought I'd revive this thread, as I went to see Lucinda in concert last night for the first time.

She is on a tour for the upcoming album "Little Honey", from which she played quite a few tracks before getting to some past fan-favorites. This was in a relatively small local venue, after her coming off a show at MSG the night before. She seemed to enjoy the comfortable, homey crowd to the point where she frequently changed her set list to suit her whims. She satisfied everyone with cuts from "Cars...", "Essence", & "West".

For an encore she included an old 1930's blues cut, and a timely cover of "For What It's Worth" (Buffalo Springfield) as her obligatory protest song. She finished off the evening rocking-out with her rendition of AC/DC's "It's A Long Way To The Top".

If you are a fan, and live anywhere near her tour venues, go see her!

Also, the new album drops Oct 14th. I'll be first in line.

Cheers, y'all!
