These are the things I have read about: LP12 has an emotional content to the music (perhaps due to the suspension) that the Scout does not. The Scout is somewhat plug and play, where as the LP12 seems to be quite hard to setup properly. I for one really enjoy setting my system up, and this would be one of the highlights of getting the LP12 I imagine. Does anybody have any other input? I have heard both, but not in my system. any info on other vinyl setups would be great as well. you can see my system in my profile, and I will be using a Seduction Phono pre, and a Fisher 400 Phono pre.

This is a tough one! I agonized over the choice between a VPI setup and the Linn. I ended up going for the VPI because it is a more up to date design and is better for the wooden console I wanted to put it on.

My advice would be to look around for a super used lp12. If it doesn't show up in your time frame, get the Scout. A nice, new LP12 will cost a heap more than a Scout.....

If you really enjoy mucking about with your system, a LP12 could provide endless pleasure. There are mountains of information and ideas on the proper setup. I second the idea of used vs new - tremendous savings can be had on a low mileage unit - all three that I have owned were obtained this way.
As far as sound is concerned, you will find strong opinions in favor of both camps- - Linns are colored/outdated/finicky, VPIs are souless. You might find yourself strongly drawn to one side or the other or it might not matter either way to you. I have heard fine examples from both companies and do not harbor a strong opinion either way yet I am probably an exception.

I think they're both great but clearly sound different from each other. Comes down to taste. I do think a new Linn is overpriced for the sound, from a value standpoint I'd only get one used although that carries risks.
