Could you please share with me ideas and practises of storing LP vinyl records?

I have them on shelves placed in transparent plastic sleeves with their open side opposite to the LP opening. They are not very practical but they keep the dust away. I was thinking if a cabinet with a glass door (so I can visually enjoy my collection) could replace the transparent sleeves. Or maybe some drawers?

Do you think of the transparent sleeves as really necessary?

I think the inner sleeves are most important in protecting the actual vinyl surface. I have gone through my entire collection and replaced the inner sleeves with the anti-static sleeves from Todd the Vinyl Junkie. I use outer sleeves when the album cover is in good condition to preserve and protect the aesthetics. If the cover is already trashed, then I don't bother with an outer sleeve.

PRotect them from what? Usually wear comes when handling the record and taking it out of the cover and back in. Or do you mean while sliding it in and out of the collection. Because I find that the most dangerous part is when you handle the cover and put it in the sleeve.

What do these antistatic sleeves do exactly , how do they work, how much do they cost and how could i buy them here in the EU?

thanks!!

Having cover art just looks better than a plain dust jacket (inner cover).

I'd imaging anti-static dust jackets would work better because dust can't cling to them.

All of the above.

Repel static electricity and dust. They also are less prone to scratching or blemishing the vinyl surface when removing the record.

Todd the Vinyl Junkie has them in stock. Check with him regarding shipping to you.

The number one risk that I have always tried to guard against is warpage (I shudder at the thought). There used to be a variety of storage devices around that had vertical dividers to keep the LPs (stored in sleeves and jackets, and possibly liners and dust covers) perfectly vertical and pressure free. Even slight bending will cause the vinyl to sag over time. HEPA filters in the room and rice paper sleeves are also advised (we hates dust, we does).

which side of the record do you keep the open part of the prtotective transpantent sleeve at?

Because I put the open sides of the record and the transparent protective sleeve towards opposite sides so that I keep the dust off. I noticed if it is placed the opossite way it offers nothing against dust.

Warpage is definately a thing to fear of.
