I'm thinking of getting one as toy. Something like a Toshiba LZ-P1 or Sony CPJ-200. Does anyone have experiences with these? Are they still in production? Are there newer/better alternatives? Any idea is appreciated. Thanks!

I don't believe those are in production.

http://www.projectorcentral.com/ is a great resource for finding info and comparing specs. / prices.

I just did a search on projectorcentral.com, 0 match for projector under $1000.

You obviously need to raise your standards.

You're right though, the cheapest they have is an epson powerlite. It's only 800 lumen - yuk. From my experience, 1200 is a minimum for even a small room.

Edit: On the other hand, Projector Superstore has a Toshiba at 1400 lumens for $1299.

Gosh, where are all those sub $1000 cheapie lowend projectors? Nobody makes them anymore? Sony, Toshiba and Philips used to make those.... Shouldn't technology drive price down over time? This is no fun...
