I'm a newbie to this site, I recently purchased my first HD player, a 30Gb iPod. I knew that the phones that came with it sucked so I decided to check out some reviews on the net. Alongs comes this site

I would like to thank all of you for allowing me to waste hours of precious time reading endless reviews on headphones. I had no idea that people had high quality portable setups? Now I'm adicted to this damn hobby!!! It started out with a new pair of KSC35's that I bought on e-bay because of the recomendations here, then I thought WOW these sound great. I'll bet the PX200's sound even better, purchase #2, and I love them! Now I just ordered Er-6's. DAMN this site!! Its costing me a fortune!! I just wanted better phones than the cheapo iPod ones.

Now I've found myself re-ripping my entire CD collection with EAC because it sounds soo much better. Is it ever going to end??

I refuse to let myself go into the amp section of this forum! for fear of my wallet.

So I REALLY know what you guys mean when you say "Welcome, sorry about your wallet"

All in all this is a GREAT site that I love to hate!!

Welcome to Head-Fi

You really should venture over to the Amplification forum. It will open up a whole new world of sound to you.

when you get even more into things (which you inevitably will...you're in too far now), the source forum is awesome too. lusting after $3k cd players is good fun.

Even the $2000 players can be quite good. Then there are the mods to less expensive ones that bring them into contention as well.

Well, I think I found the replacement for my portable needs with the iPod. When I'm at home I just crank up the home stereo, so hopefully I wont be tempted with $2-$3k CD players anytime soon.

One thing I've noticed with the wife? Its ALOT harder to get some $200 headphones, and a $500 iPod than it was to purchase a home theater that cost 10 times that? Anybody else experience this phenomenon?

She just cannot understand why the white ones from Apple arent good enough. I let her listen and she "claims" to hear no difference???

In my view the iPod earphones aren't that bad. Not as good as the Sennheiser MX series but still, not half as junky as the stuff I'm drowning in now that I have a whole bunch of Sony portable gear.

I feel your pain. You see, only men and specially mentally scrambled women can be as geeky as we are. If such a woman is not your betrothed, then you are forever condemned to having to justify your purchases in every single little way. Sad, but true.

Although it is difficult to justify your purchases to the wife, I think those of us who are married and have wives that just don't get it should count our blessings.

For one, would you want a woman who is as twisted and obsessive about audio as we all must be? Someone has to run the house and take care of the kids and all.

Secondly, imagine how much more sorry we would all have to be about our wallets if we were buying for two? You bring home a pair of CD3000s. Your wife takes a listen and says, "I don't know. I'm not quite happy with the sound. There seems to be a bit of sibilance in these. Can you buy me a pair of DT880s?".

And for those single Head-Fier's out there, you might think it's cool if you find a girl who shares your interest in headphones and audio equipment, but if you do, run, don't walk, the other way as fast as possible.

I know how nuts I am. If my wife was the same way we'd be a pair a full house couldn't beat.

You guys have a a good point, I wouldnt want to support 2 of me !! It could easily get out of control.

So I ventured over to the Amplifer section, even though I told my fingers to stop, they just wouldnt listen. Now I'm dying to know just what I'm missing. I'm going to wait for my ER-6's to show up first, then maybe I'll order a Total Air-Head.

This damn forum is like Crack for the music lover!!

I'm realizing that I should of just gone ahead and ordered the ER-4P's and while I'm at it some CD3000's and what the hell, 2nd mortgage the house for a couple of amps, one for home, one for work......hmmmmm

HELP SOMEBODY STOP ME!!!

LOL, this forum is actually pretty cheap, try going over to Audiogon for the full size toys sometime, it'll make youreally appreciate just how easy this site is on your wallet! (Remember that when your wife starts asking).

Be careful. Head-fi is littered with a bunch of people who started with the ER6 and ended up with ER4P. Then get the P to S adapter. Then get a mint amp. Then figures, what the hey, Ray Samuels new portable amp isn't *that* expensive.... And that's just portable!

Not to worry. We can take care of your wallet here. No need to go to the amps forum at all. You see, Sony makes a really nice wooden headphone that the ipod can drive directly...
