So, I was walking down the street with my 16s. and I guess one of the iems came loose off the cable and fell off. Unfortunately, I am not unable to find it. I am looking for recommendations on where to go from here. I was just thinking of getting a different pair. Any recommendations out there?  I don't have a budget, and I also have an sr71-b that I would most likely pair with it. I can go into more detail if anyone wants it. I just wanted to keep this brief.

Thanks!

Well, that plain sucks. I have discussed previously how the 2-pin connector has this huge flaw, and I have often found my monitor down my shirt in the winter time. Luckily it doesn't happen to many people. MMCX seems more resilient to this, but the collared plug of the Siren series is pretty much fool proof.

My recommendation is any of the Siren series pieces, depending on your budget. They are all pretty amazing, and a pretty big step up from the 16 in every way. They also have the nearly-unique ability to sound neutral, a little bassy, or like bass monsters, similar to your 16s.

Of course you can go about a hundred different ways, there are a lot of CIEM manufacturers out there that have great products, it really depends on your budget and what type of sound you are looking for. Were you 100% satisfied with your 16s? If not, then tell us what you didn't like, and we can find something that will fit the bill.

It honestly makes me sick to think about it. I should have seen it coming. It has fallen off previously while walking, but I was on the phone this time and didn't seam to notice.

I was considering going with the layla. Haven't really got a budget in mind.

I guess my problem is I really don't know anything besides the 16s. I upgraded to them from the sure se 530s. I haven't had any problems with the way they sound. I enjoy the bass when im listening to rap or a base heavy song, but I can get fatigued by it after extended periods of listening.

i have a sr-71b amp as well that I use on occasion, so its nice to have the layla with the balanced cables already. Anyone try out that combo before?

Yup, I saw it coming after the first time I found one of my monitor in my pants. The 2-pin is shi-te if it becomes lose fitting, and it does with time. So I took extra precaution until I upgraded to the Roxanne.

If you have unlimited funds then anything goes, but understand that there are severe diminishing returns past the $1500 mark. The layla does not sound anywhere near twice as good as the Angie, and you could easily save the money for another CIEM in the future when something else revolutionary comes along.

But just so we're clear, I came down the same upgrade path as you, and if you like how the 16s sound you will want to go with the Siren series as it's the only CIEM that can be tuned (without resorting to EQ) to sound like the 16. No other IEM can deliver that much bass, mostly because it's, well, just too much :)

Anyway, plenty of good sounding options on the market, just depends what features are relevant to you.

K10 - amazing workmanship on the shells
JH - secure cables and adjustable bass
1964 - adel technology
Westone - silicone canals for better comfort and isolation
UE - 3D printed shells should provide a better fit, in theory

There are many more but I can't list them all. You can see each manufacturer has an ace up their sleeve. They all sound good, none of them sound bad, at this level it really just depends what other features you want.

Maybe you should get ciem with silicone shell with recessed jack so it wont fall off. And if you can go to Japan, get the sony just ear. They do custom tuning.

Thanks! I think i narrowed it to the k10, layla, and a12. Unless there is another high end ciem I am missing. What is the level of adjustability of the layla's bass? Will i be able to turn it all the way up and mimic the 16s if i wanted?

There are lots of high end CIEMs you are missing lol, but this hobby is never ending, you gotta narrow it down to whatever product has that killer feature that is important to you.

With regards to Layla, I believe iirc that the max is a +13dB, so I would say yea it should mimic the 16s, which again iirc have a 10dB boost out of the box. Personally if I were you, I would go with the Angie, which can also go up to +10dB. It is 95% of what the Layla is for half the money.

Well, have you tried contacting JH Audio to see if they would do only one side? And charge half price, of course :p

But if you want to use this as an excuse to upgrade (even so, sorry for your loss), might as well go out and start demo-ing TOTL CIEMs. After all, they cost a lot, and you don't want to be dissatisfied with your purchase. Especially since there's no 15 day refund.

So take the recommendations here with a pinch of salt, and go out there and try them for yourself.

Thanks for the jh crew comment. Signed up! Really not sure what i am going to do. I wish there was a census number 1. It would make things a lot easier. Last time I was looking it was like jh13s or 16s.

Using it as an excuse to get a new pair haha. Where is a place to demo any of these? I've never seen one

Do you have any headphone shops in your area, or dealers of any of the brands that the others have recommended in this thread? They should have the demos for you to take for a spin.

Then again, I'm speaking as a person who is incredibly lucky to have within 20 kilometers of me a total of 7 (or more) headphone shops, and all of them carrying the best of the best. You could always contact the companies to ask for a loan of a demo unit, so far one user has reported it to be possible with UE, so perhaps you could give it a shot.

Not that I know of. I am going to have to search on the web to see.

I'm going have to go to Singapore just for the headphone outlets! Got a couple of mates who live there so I guess I've got an excuse. It's only a few hours flight from Brisbane.

Yeah, its an audiophile's paradise!

But just not these few weeks, we've been struck by a pretty nasty haze. Our air quality has gone to pot, and I don't think you'll enjoy it much here. Now we can't even boast about our clean air.
