I can't find my EX71's anywhere. I have the new Motorola SLVR phone that plays mp3's and I want a cheapish portable canal/earbud that is not an isolator, and is less than $50. Bass is important to me, and the SLVR has no eq, so bass heavy is a plus.

Recommendations?

If you do a froogle search the Creative EP-630 (sharp md33 rebrands) are easily available online in the US now. If you have a Cambridge Soundworks store nearby, might even be worth a look since they are owned by Creative and carry a lot of their products including earphones. I think us.creative.com sells them for $29 + $<1 shipping iirc.

Haven't heard them myself, but I did enjoy the Sharps.

Btw I lost my EX71s too, but then I found out my mom had secretly borrowed them for portable use. ???

Yeah, I was considering that too, but what better opportunity to try out some new cans?

Edit: this phone is way too loud with my UM2's on volume setting 1, so the harder to drive the better.

I'd like someone to try the Griffin Earthumps, just so that I know how they sound. They seem like a good alternative (to the EX71's) to suggest to people looking for cheap earphones, but I haven't heard many opinions on their sound quality. I'd mostly like to know how they stack up to the EX71 and Creative/MD33/SennCX300.

I pulled the trigger on a set of Sennheiser CX-300B's today. Slightly over my budget, but I've read good things about them. Should have them in 2-3 days. I'll post some initial impressions once they arrive.

Ok, I have received the CX300B's and have spent a few days with them. Build quality is decent, not much to them really. The package is quite bare, not even a soft carry case is included, headphones and some different sized tips and thats it. I've tried them with 2 sources so far:

Motorola SLVR L7 with 512mb transflash card. MP3 files at 192k CBR. Good sound, decent bass, slightly rolled highs. Mids seem a tad recessed. Not bad overall, better than I remember the EX71's.

Apple ipod Shuffle 512mb. MP3 files at 320k CBR. Again, good sound. Outstanding bass, this combo is like having a subwoofer strapped to your head! Good highs, mids seem decent.

Overall I'm happy with my choice. I definitely wasn't expecting this kind of bass from a semi-canalphone. Isolation is almost what I wanted, these isolate just slightly more than the EX71's do. Recommended for bass heads on a budget!
