So we are writing a literary analysis on a symbol in Lord of the Flies and my teacher is letting me take a little bit of a different approach than what is typical. I am writing an essay about Jack and how he is a destroying Hitler/facist figure. I am referencing book happenings with happenings in history. So far I have 4 examples, but I need a few more and I am stuck. Mine are as follows:

1. Jack striking the candle bud at the start visibly upsets Simon and Ralph, so he sees violence won't get him anywhere on the island. This is similar to Hitler in the Beer Hall Putsch, because this is also where Hitler figured out he needed to work from inside to get power.

2. Jack takes over disregarding elections, and does it by promising great things and going after the helpless littleuns to be in his tribe. Similarly Hitler disregarded elections until the majority was on his side, and he went after the starved helpless German people for support.

3. Jack takes Samneric and forces them to work much like Hitler's and Stalin's forced labor camps.

4. Jack wanting to kill Ralph, the opposition is much like Stalin's sending Trotsky, his biggest opponent, to Mexico to be assasinated.

Actually, Hitler assumed power before he was popular: it's been ages since I've read Lord of the Flies...but the theme of dictators getting absolute power by fear mongering was ever present with Hitler being Chancellor. Specifically, Hitler was able to suspend the Constitution when the Reichstag fire occured. He claimed needing national security to purge Germany of communist terrorists (so it's also very likely that it could have been staged by the Nazis). While the SS's fear mongering had gotten large crowds at Hitler's speeches, they really only got major political power after this.

Thank you Davesrose, that is helpful. I thought of another one, will this work? Jack having the kids bow down to him to get food is much like Hitler giving himself the title of der fuhrer, and I believe the Heil Hitler just served as an ego boost and forcing the people to recognize he was above them. Also, Jack seems to run a communist society.
