I'm looking to buy a new pair of cans. I've been using a Sennheiser HD428, but I I am no audiophile (yet), and I need some advice. I've been checking out a couple of headphones; Sony mdr v6 or 7056's, shure 440's. Among these which would you recommend, or if there are other sets that I can check out, I don't know much about these so, I guess a set that doesn't require an amp, and is within the price range of $0-$100. Thank you.

The Koss DJ100 and JVC S500 and S400 have been getting a lot of attention lately. There's also the popular Grado SR60i and SR80i, but I find these too uncomfortable and fatiguing in sound for me. It depends on what kind of sound you're looking for and what kind of music you usually listen to.

Ok so it would help a lot if you could tell us a couple things
    1. What are you using them for?
    2. What kind of music are you listening to?
  4. cian114
I'll be using them for casual listening, I guess, music or movie on my laptop. I listen to classical music most of the time, sometimes i listen to audiobooks, rock, and electronic.

I personally would go for the sony mdr-v6 or the shure 440s

I guess I'll go for the v6, as the price on amazon is cheaper. Thanks for the replies.

On that note, what do you guys think of its ear pads/ cups? I read somewhere that they're bad
  7. Zashoomin
The pads are fine don't worry about it.  They just tend to wear out if you use them too much.  By that though I mean that you might need to replace them once every other year, and that is if you use them a lot.  I loved my V6's I hope you like them too [IMG]

If it's not too late, there is some guy selling those (Sony) used on this site for about $40 or so I think.
If it were me I would try to find a pair of the 880s used for about $100.

EDIT:  I'm just starting out, but what I'm learning is that people apparently swap headphones like crazy.  A never ending process of finding what you like and then thinking the grass is greener and changing again.
Therefore, I won't be buying any new - ever.  probably :D

No way will you find a pair of 880's in decent condition for $100. Someone at some time may have found someone willing to sell at that price, but that does not make it the market price.
  11. themadride
If you say so.  It's not like there is a pair listed for sale at that price on our own classifieds section at this very moment.  Oh wait.
  12. Tsujigiri
Are you talking about a different headphone than the Beyers?
  13. themadride
    Hey, that's my bad.  I wrote 880.  I meant 840.
He was talking about buying the Shure 440s.  I suggested (meant to suggest) getting the 840's used.
  14. Tsujigiri
Ah I thought you were suggesting an alternative. I would have been happy to have been proven wrong about the DT880 market price lol.
  15. themadride
No kidding. 200 used on those would be a steal.
