My dt 770 250 ohms keep getting the fault where the wire is loose from the can and risks being torn from the driver, this is the second time. So I'm looking for headphones that have a noticeable upgrade. I play games alot and listen to music frequently, everything from country, mostly ugly rap songs.I used an amp with the dt 770's but it recently stopped working and the difference between amp/no amp was minimal other than loudness. Budget is about 300$ for headphones alone, the amp if needed would prefer to be not to expensive.

What did you like/dislike about the DT770's sound? Also, I assume you're looking for a closed-back, circumaural headphone like the DT770 is, but are you also looking at open back headphones?

Without knowing anything about sound signature preferences, I would recommend the NAD Viso HP50, which I consider one of the best headphones for its price, if you're not concerned about how they make you look. Slightly warmer than neutral with tight, extended bass, not recessed mids, and smooth treble without sacrificing clarity significantly; it's a very natural and balanced sound that goes well with pretty much any genre.

As the dt770's were my first true step into audio, I don't really know alot about signature sounds other than bass. So for example with the dt770's I liked the fact I could hear more instruments that I couldn't hear before. But I fear I still can't appreciate any other signature yet, kind miss the bass though

The DT770 has a V-shaped signature, which means the treble and bass are boosted relative to the midrange; since the midrange is the "heart" of the music, there are still details that the DT770 leaves out that more neutral headphones have in the midrange. If you want a "fun" sound signature with plenty of bass, check out the V-Moda M-100. I would consider it very colored and not neutral, but many people enjoy its sound, and the build quality is excellent, with a removable cable.

I still recommend the NAD Viso HP50 as a more hi-fi option, though.

I looked at the V-Moda I like the idea of a "fun" sound signature, but their were alot of complaints about comfort. Is there anymore "fun" signatures that aren't gimmicky and still hold a somewhat Hi-Fi rep. Also, my DT 770 pro finally broke due to the wiring being from the loose cable. RIP

There are plenty of headphones out there that are a better value than the DT1770. To the OP, consider the B&W P7, has a V-shaped, fun signature that still has pretty good fidelity.

try to consider how sturdy and comfy dt770 is ;)
velour > leather and dt1770 is direct upgrade without losing anything or doing trade-offs.
