So, i've got a decently extensive pink floyd collection (all their official releases except Echoes, plus about 50 or so live and other unofficial recordings). Anyway, I was looking at the mfsl gold disc releases of Meddle, DSOTM, The Wall and Atom Heart Mother. is the general consensus that these sound a lot better than the regular recordings? what about the recent SACD release of DSOTM, would that be comparable, better or worse than the mfsl gold disc? And also, is ebay pretty much the best place to purchase these discs since they're not in print anymore? I don't really care to have new ones, especially since they're significantly more expensive.

Mr_Bill --

Please look for 1973 copy of D.S.O.T.M. that was released under the Harvest label.
This particular version was released in Japan and managed to trickle over into the U.S.A.

It is the best version of D.S.O.T.M. that I have ever heard and I have heard every one.

The voices are more organic, the percussion more crisp and sound effects are more realistic.

Do yourself a favor and listen to the Harvest Label D.S.O.T.M.
You will not regret it, I promise! I received my copy last week...

If you have any questions, please private message me.

Speaking of eBay, that is where I bought my "Harvested" D.S.O.T.M.
I am glad that you mentioned eBay, as it was where I found this!

Yeah...

Sorry for the confusion, but obviously this was not made in 1973.

It was made later from 1973 source material -- I thought that you knew.

Would it be unethical to burn somebody the Harvest CD if they own another one already? Just wondering. I bought it, too, and it is WAY nicer. (Unfortunately, my CDs are at school.) You can find it at online stores for thirty five dollars, WAY cheaper than any MFSL release.

I hope you guys are not talking about the DSOTM Harvest CDP 7 46001 2
made in Japan and available in Europe around 83-84.

Are you talking about an "only for Japanese market" edition (i mean an import CD from Japan) under the Harvest label? I'm curious.

I have the Mobile Fidelity issues of "Meddle," Dark Side Of the Moon," and "The Wall" [...I waited too long and missed out on getting "Ummagumma" when it was easy to find] and I think they sound awesome. They are definitely better than the standard CD issues or the regular vinyl pressings that I have heard. They were well worth the price. I have not heard the most recent release of DSOTM or the "Harvest Edition." However, I would certainly recommend that if you can get the Mobile Fidelity issues of these discs, I doubt that you would be disappointed...

The CD layer of the recent DSoTM SACD Hybrid does not sound as nice as the MFSL version.

You could also look for the Sony gold version of WYWH.

What are your favorite live releases? On my wish list is a soundboard recording from the 1977 tour.

I have the Sony Gold version of "Wish You Were Here." I didn't mention it since we were talking about Mobile Fidelity issues. The Sony Gold version sounds pretty good. but it's not Mobile Fidelity! I would love any live version of the 1977 tour. That was the last tour with Waters and Gilmour. The show I saw in Philadelphia on the 1977 tour is, after hundreds of concerts, still my favorite!

Just a small correction, Waters and Gilmour toured in 1980 for The Wall.

I have a copy of the 5/9/77 show at Oakland Coliseum. The music is fantastic but it sounds like a 1970's audience recording. I can send you a copy if you like.

You are, of course, absolutely correct. I have always felt that "Animals" was their last true collaboration. "The Wall" was so dominated by Waters. I saw "The Wall" show at Nassau Colesium in New York, great show but it almost seemed like it was Roger Waters with a back-up band. Thanks for the correction...I would love a copy, how could we arrange that?
