After much research and reading at Head-fi I pulled the trigger on some clearance priced e500PTH's.

So far they are pretty damn amazing

but after doing about a day of listening and some more reading I am wondering if I would prefer the Triple.Fi's. Of course, at this point I am still just getting used to the e500's sound. My complaints so far, and they are minor, are the bass gets a little too muddy on some thicker metal tracks and on some tracks the highs feel a little too muted.

That being said, is there any one in the San Jose area that would let me demo their Triple.Fi's?

Or, alternatively, does anyone know of a store nearby that I can demo them at?

:bump:

Do any retailers normally have demos available for Ultimate Ears?

a bit off topic,. but when yyou say clearence price, where is this and how much?

On Topic: most retailers wont have demo IEMs because of hygeine reasons, thats why its so hard to buy IEMs whereas Headphones you can try no probs!

$320 at Headroom. I believe they are now sold out.

I owned the Ultimate Ears Triple.fi 10 Pro for the past week, and just returned them...

The Triple.fi are really great IEM, producing a balanced and full sound. Bass representation was good, as was clear, crisp high frequencies.

Two reasons why I returned them:

1. They didn't provide the sound isolation I needed for my most frequent use of IEM's...during airplane travel.

2. On certain songs, I didn't care for the vocal representation...as voices at times sounded recessed.

While at Brookstone, I plugged into a pair of Shure SE530's and SE310's. For my personal taste, I preferred their sound over the UE's. With the Shure, the mids were warm, and vocals were outstanding. Kind of felt like the singer was standing right next to me.

I used all the IEM's in conjunction with my Cowon iAudio 7 Player

Thanks for the comment.

I guess I'll either have to suck it up and be happy with my Shures (really not that hard

) or order a pair of the UEs, demo them, and return the ones I care for less.

Huh? All of UE IEMs provide -26db of noise reduction. To my knowledge, other IEMs are the same or less.

That's understandable. UE is known for that signature.

The quoted spec is at a specific frequency. The amount of isolation varies across the frequency spectrum.

Also, different headphones will offer different amounts of isolation relative to other headphones.
