Hello fellow head-fiers,
currenty I own the Fostex T50RP (Mad Dog) and Audio Technica's AD700. I bought the Mad Dogs for music & immersive gaming, and the AD700 for competitive gaming. After a few weeks of usage I am ready to say I'm looking for something else.
It's true, the AD700's are good for gaming and I enjoy them for such. However, when it comes to music, they fall rather short, compared to my Mad Dogs (except for female vocals, which I really enjoy on this headphone). They are so "in my face" and just have a wow factor that the Mad Dogs lack. I also much prefer these on my head simply because my ears never overheat and I can hear things around me.
Now while in my opinion the Mad Dogs are a phenomenal headphone, there's a few things I don't care for.
-My ears get hot pretty quick, and the perimeter of my ear begins to ache after about 45 minutes.
-After switching from the AD700, music from the MD's almost sound like my head is in a tin can, or "underwater" (please forgive my crude descriptions
)
-It may be related to the above point, but (vocals in paticular) sound "held back", they're not right up in my face on most tracks.
My preferred genres are most types of electronic, rock, solo instruments and some pop (Leona Lewis, Alicia Keys, Celine Dion, etc).
I'd really like to exchange both of these headphones together and pick up 1 headphone that can manage both tasks. The new headphone would be a home-only unit, so I'm looking for a full sized set. My budget is around $500, with the stipulation that the new headphone could be driven to near max potential from a Titanium HD and Schiit Magni.
