okay, so the two i have in mind are the bang and olufsen BeoSound 8, and the bowers and wilkins zeppelin air. what are your opinions and why?

oh, sorry. i didn't realized i was in the wrong forum! biggbenn74, are those sonys excessive on the bass? how about when you crank them up loud?

The bass is definitely there. It's not excessive, but it comes with a subwoofer built in, so there will be bass. Also, bass is something iPod stereos lack in, so the subwoofer is a plus.

If you're going for sound quality, don't get an "iPod dock". It's a gimmick. Just use a cable to connect your iPod's headphone out to the speaker input, it's not hard. IMO you would do much better getting a set of bookshelf speakers.
 
While there are good sounding docks, the value is much lower than normal speakers. You could get a better sounding speaker for the same price as any dock.
