Hey im looking to build a Portable headphone amp.
what im lookin for is some suggestions and possibly links with like DIY step by step stuff. i know ive seen amps people have built with Altoids cases and project boxes, im looking for something of that size, that runs on batteries. i havent really built one before, but i work at radio shack so im not really a newb. but suggestions would help, is it worth it building one? can i get the parts and everything for cheaper?

thanks, Aeon

I like the Mini^3 build myself as it is rather straight forward as long as you pay attention to the parts list(easy thing to do) and the most difficult thing IMO is soldering the opamps as it requires SMD soldering.(It may be easyer to source the parts for a build from a place like mouser or digi key for a build like this one as Radio Shack is not likely to have all the parts needed for the build. Also the site for the build list part # for the needed items on those sites.)

Big vote for the mini3. You should be able to purchase kits from Glass Jar Audio and if you send Jeff a sweetly written email, he might do the SMD soldering for you in exchange for a few more coins. Don't quote me on that though, he's pretty darn busy and the SMD soldering isn't all that hard...

If you get a discount on radio shack items (which, if I remember correctly, all radio shack employees do) you should be able to get everything you need to build a CMoy for cheap. This includes an iron; I built my first CMoy using a radioshack iron, but wouldn't reccomend it for long term. It's now gathering dust in my closet because I "borrowed" one from work.

big x2 on the cmoy. great 1st amp project, and tangents tutorial linked above is rly great for beginners. u should be able to get almost everything except opamps (digikey.com or mouser.com) from where you work. good luck and enjoy.
