Hi folks,

I am currently using a FiiO Q3 with my Sennheiser HD660S through the balanced 4.4mm Pentaconn connector. I have no issues driving the 660S in terms of volume. Even without using the gain switch I hardly go over 60% of the maximum volume. Sound wise I am pretty happy with it and I enjoy listening without getting fatique over longer listening sessions. That being said will upgrading to an amp / dac stack like the JDS Atom offer much better sound or will the difference just be very subtle?

Cheers

I have the Atom stack and think it sounds great... But I don't think it's available in the EU. You might check out Topping or SMSL.

If I was going to get a JDS stack I would have to import but thats no a problem, done so many times... not really interested in topping or smsl to be honest. Even though topping makes some good gear after the L30 desaster I won't buy anything from them any time soon but I need to check out SMSL. Thanks bud.

No. Never change a running system. If you're happy no need to upgrade for 5%.

Thanks. That's exactly what I was thinking but as this is my first headphone amp/dac I just wanted to get some opinions. Appreciated mate.

Its definitely an upgrade but like Deolum stated, if you're happy with what you currently own it's not worth it. I would say if you plan on upgrading to headphones that are harder to drive, an upgrade would then be necessary.
