Hi,

I'd like to have a pair of noise-cancelling wireless headphones. I've read lots of reviews, but it's often impossible to describe how headphones sound. I find I'm a little picky, so most reviews don't help.

I have two pairs of (the wired) Sennheiser HD 598. I like them a lot. A big part of why I like them is that the mids (vocals) seem to be less pronounced. I bought a pair of HD 650, and returned them because there was way too much mids, even after I lowered them with an equalizer. (I did notice they were much more detailed than the 598, which the reviews did say, and I was a bit sad to send them back.)

Any recommendations, then, for something that sounds "something like" the HD 598? I notice Sennheiser has Momentum 2 and PXC 550. Does either of them have the same kind of personality as the HD 598?

FWIW, I auditioned the top-of-the-line Sony WH1000XM3 ... the noise cancellation was superb, but the sound didn't thrill me. There was a bit too much bass, and my overall impression was just, "meh," the music didn't excite me.

Also, I own a pair of middle-of-the-line Bose wireless (no sound cancellation). They sound what I would describe as "pretty good," nicer to me (but obviously more mid-fi) than the Sony. I have high hopes for the Quiet Comfort 35, but will have to go to a Bose store to audition them, I think.

I couldn't audition any Sennheisers or Boses at Best Buy ... the demo models at the store had the bluetooth disabled (or not installed at all). Don't understand why they would refuse to let me hear my own music before buying, but that's another topic entirely.

Anyway, my specific question is about what sounds like the HD 598, but if anyone has any recommendations for headphones with the vocals "pushed back" or "dished," I can seek those out too.

Thanks in advance!
