I'm a proud owner of the koss portapro headphones and i love them...about 6 months ago i couldnt car less about sound quility...but i wanted to, so i bought some portapros and im so happy with them.
Now I'm ready to take my listening to the next level and my question is very simple: are the sennheiser hd212's a good next step or should i save my money for a nicer set o cans(at the moment, i have limited funds and 212s're cheap)?

thanks so much!

p.s. im looking for closed cans, i love bass and i listen to metal metal metal!

i'm always an advocate for saving and waiting... if you can afford something way better in 2 months instead of 1 you might as well wait and enjoy the benefits for years to come. a god pair of headphones can last you years and years. just keep that in mind.

i would, but i'm trapped behind a wall. i was convinced to trap myself. i even question it sometimes, asking my mom, "Mother, did it need to be so high?"

The answer is even simpler-NO. IMO the HD212pro is a step down. Thumping, muddy, one note bass. Enjoy your Portapros until you can afford something else, or you may waste your money and be disappointed. Although increased headphone cost does not equal sound quality in every instance, cost can be a reasonable indictator to start with. IMO, cans at similar price points won't necessarily offer you a step up, simply a different flavour, so it is then important to know what you are looking for. If you want a "step up" then don't look for something that is $20-$70 up and expect night and day, in most cases you wont get it, so if money is tight then hold off, don't be impatient.

EDIT: Buy second hand from here, that is the best way to try different headphones and not spend too much on the journey.

Use the force you must, listen to swbf2cheater, help you on your journey he can!
*giggles and whacks you with stick and rummages through your things.,,mmhmmm hmm hmmmm

My first real audiophile experience was with the Senn Hd 485. The first time I used them i was like...HOLY HELL what the hell have I been missing all these years, I didn't know this was possible...and these are entry level? WHATTTT!!!! I suggest starting there if you prefer open backs ( more natural sound ) They are officially out of print, but you wont regret buying them for your first set. They are geared for music and amped through a computer they sound awesome.

I like the Senn 212's. the AKG K518's are better, but for those who can't take bass, the AKG's will not be your thing.

In comparison to the AKG K518, the HD212 sound thin and weady. what's your budget?

Low end Senns aren't bad value, but they are hardly great sounding cans. Whether the HD212pro sounds good or not (and you know my opinion on that one) and whether the AKG 518 is "better" or not, is not really the relevant answer to the OPs question. The OP has and likes (loves) the Portapro and has asked whether getting the HD212pro or similar priced headphone is the next step for him. Can anyone suggest with confidence that getting a HD212 or even an K518 will be a worthwhile improvement to the OPs Portapro?

JayxSnoogans, save your money until you can afford something that will likely give you a reasonable improvement, and buy second hand to stretch your purchasing dollar further.
