Hey, as the title says i would like some new headphones, i dont like too much bass, i still want nice treble and mids though. i also want open back. I am going to be mainly playing games. I am looking at the Sennhesier HD 558 or 518, and also the Beyerdynamic DT770 PRO, but i have another question, there are different ohm models available,  the 32 ohm, 80 and 250 ohm, i heard that with more ohms you need a an amp, but for 32 ohms is an amp and dac necessary and helpful?. Will it reduce feedback? And will i need to buy a soundcard? or is the onboard fine?

Sennheisers have a magical thing that they will sound nice no matter what you plug them into. However if you want more punchy/boomy-ish bass out of a sennheiser, you'll need a more powerful amp. The HD558 has more present mids and treble compared to the bassier 518, however in my opinion I prefer the presentation of the HD558. If mids, treble and soundstage is your thing: the HD558 is a neat contender.

The DT770 PRO's 32 ohm means you can drive them off your motherboard fairly well without an amp, but beyers no matter what; will enjoy additional amplification to sound more lively. IMO I prefer the Beyerdynamic DT 770 250ohm with an amplifier over my HD558/598 for music.

thanks for your reply, i have also heard good things about the 598, and what amp should i buy? the fiio e10k looks fairly promising at a low price for lower ohm headphones.

I'm really sorry, I lost track of time and forgot about your thread. The HD598 doesn't really need an amp. Get the headphone first, determine what you want out of it: then get an amp.

A more powerful amplifier increases the bass quantity, but a good DAC will slightly refine the sound of the HD598. Modern motherboard built-in soundcards are pretty solid.
