Hi all. Basically I'm looking for closed cans mainly for movies and singleplayer gaming with light music listening. Deep, clear bass is a must but audio positioning isn't as important. They'll be connected to either a Xonar STX or Audioengine D1 so I suppose max impedance should be around 250 ohms.

I've looked at a few options like the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro but there seems to be differences in sound (bass I think?) depending on the model and it all sounds conflicting. Anyone have any recommendations?

DT770's have loud bass (not nearly as 'quality' as you may think) and isn't really as clear as you may think. It's generally a good choice though.

Maybe some Vmoda M100's. The bass was deep, but not as pronounced as the DT770

The 80 ohm version of the DT-770 is supposed to be the one with the most bass. Not sure about the differences between the other versions, but I would recommend one of the two pro models (either 80 or 250 ohm) because they are cheaper.

Thanks! Seems there's only about a thirty dollar difference between the two where I am, might have to find a store and compare them directly. Don't suppose there's anything nearer the $400-500 mark? I'm upgrading from some third world Logitech headsets so I'm just trying to find something as far removed from those as I can.

If you have a Guitar Center near where you are, they will probably have both in store to audition. I own the 770 Pro80s and I've heard the Vmoda M100s. Prefer the 770s, but I was listening those to a long time before I heard the M100s.

You can look at Beyerdynamic T70. It's in that price range, but it's supposed to be rather brighter than DT770.

Sorry for the late reply, I'm feeling a little out of my depth here so I've just been trying to research and hopefully not be quite as clueless as before. Those M100s look promising but I'm curious to know if something like a Xonar STX would be overkill or detrimental to them because they're 32 ohms whereas the card's output impedance is 10.

Actually never mind, I think just a sound card with Dolby Headphone hooked up to an external headphone amp with low output impedance should do the trick.
