People used to rave about the sansa express as being pretty bang for the buck also, as far as I can remember. The current hype seems to be the clip however.

I think the new Ipod Nano and the 4 and 8 gb Zunes are small enough really. The little Cowan Iaudio7 looks nice, and its one of the only things that wowed me sound-wise at the last head-fi meet i went to, besides Woo Audio amps.
