Hi all,
I've been reading the heck out of teh internetz, but I keep going in circles - seems every review for every headphone finds it lacking compared to the next one up the chain. I'm looking for a pair of do-it-all phones for my iphone/ipod for under $150. I listen mostly to heavier rock, so I want a solid bass response, but I also often listen to more mellow rock (e.g. Decemberists), for which I appreciate finer sonics. My current headphones are AKG K26P's, which have nice bass, but are definitely rolled off in the upper range; I used to have a low-end pair of UE's (studio 3?), which I liked everything about *but* the bass.

My current main contenders are Shure 115/210s, UE Super.Fi 5s, and Monster Turbines - each of these seems to get some good reviews, mixed with some negative. Any owners care to offer an opinion? I think my top two are the 115's for the price, and the UE's for the reputation, but I'm open to ideas...wish these were easier to audition! Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the suggestions - by HP-FX500 do you mean the wooden JVC's? That's what comes up on google...they do look sorta rad. And I've seen good things about RE0s, but I'll admit I"m a little biased toward bigger brands...my fault, I know. I'll look into those and the Phonaks...

$20 more and you can get yourself an Atrio, now that is an IEM for rock.

Thanks everyone! This is a ton of options to look into...for some reason I keep coming back to the turbines though, even though I shudder at who makes them. The reviews make them out to be very close to the sound signature I want (heavy but accurate bass with good mids and highs), and ecost has them for $100... I know better than to ask for more direct comparisons, I'll continue to use the search function :-D Thanks for your help!
