Looking for music with prominent violas

At the Frick many, many years ago I heard Jaime Laredo play the Grieg Violin Sonata #3 transcribed for Viola (which he played) and harpsichord.

A tiny room with perfect acoustics. The concert of a lifetime, I have never forgotten it.

All my forays into high end audio have been an attempt to re-capture that singular moment.

Ernest Bloch's Suite Hebraique, Bartok's Concerto, Walton's A Minor and several of Hindemith's works are staples and would be perhaps the easiest to find. One of my personal favorites though is Glinka's D Minor.

The link above is the Glinka D Minor with quite a good quality recording for youtube.

I have been listening to those below. They are very nice, because the usual harshness of the solo violin is gone with the viola. Recommended.
