Im looking for a version of messenger that can log on to msn network to chat and send files but is not msn bcoz msn messenger looks cumbersome and it always does something weird to my comp.

Any suggestions?

Ever consider any multi-protocol instant messenger services? the ones that can do AIM, ICQ, Yahoo!, MSN, and all that good stuff? If you want one of those, you can try something like Trillian or Pidgin

All the main ones have been mentioned, and I must say, if you want all the features, windows live messenger is the one to use, I've been using it since it was first released, and not once has it crashed, even when running almost 24/7.

I have a mac now, and adium works really well, I like it more than live messenger, but it has no webcam, unlike the live client.
