im listening to alot more jazz these days and the other day I blew the dust off of Miles' Jack Johnson....the guitar work on the 1st track was GREAT! The problem is, I'm really not sure where to start as far as a "guitar jazz" collection is concerned....any suggestions?

Larry Carlton

Except for his work with The Crusaders, I only know of him from his studio work with Steely Dan and other musicians (Joni Mitchell, Michael Jackson, Sammy Davis Jr., Herb Alpert, Quincy Jones, Bobby Bland, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, Donald Fagen, etc.).

I second these. Also:

Jim Hall - Concierto
Kurt Rosenwinkel - The Next Step

and some fusion:

Allan Holdsworth - The Sixteen Men Of Tain
David Torn - Cloud About Mercury

Agree.

Also, try "Feelin the Spirit" by Grant Green.

YES!!!!!

Sonny Sharrock was an amazing guitarist--the Albert Ayler of the guitar. He is also on Miles' "Jack Johnson" soundtrack.

Check out Return to Forver which Al played in.

Jeff Beck's fusion albums.

Check out John McLaughlin and Mahavishnu Orchestra. McLaughlin asbsolutely rips. Intense stuff.

Also check out Coluseum II. Gary Moore laid down some scorching tracks.

Great players in a trad. jazz setting are:

Joe Pass, Barney Kessel, Charlie Byrd

Fusion/ Jazz/Guitar:

Al DiMeola-"Elegant Gypsy" and "Casino"
Jeff Beck-"Wired" and "Blow By Blow"
Sonny Sharrock-"Ask The Ages"
Joe Morris-"Age Of Everything" and "Underthru"
Grant Green- anything by the late great Jazz Guitarist

I also agree with any of the Return To Forever albums with Al DiMeola.
