You'd think it would be easy (and cheap) to find a simple A/B switch box, but noooo...

I need something to switch a single analog stereo source between my soundcard and a separate headphone amp. Other than making my own (which I may end up doing), any recommendations for a good A/B switch box? I need something with at least one stereo input and two or more stereo outputs, using RCA-type female jacks for everything (no speaker terminals or TRS jacks). Line level signals or better (don't need anything much in the way of power handling).

Doesn't have to be world-class quality, but should hopefully be better than something from Radio Shack, and <$50 if possible. Any suggestions?

Radio Shack sells a three-way switch box with stereo RCA female inputs and outputs. It costs under $15. Why not try it and see if it does what you need. You can always return it within 30 days for a refund at the store where you purchased it. I must have three of these by now.

I've seen that, but it looks like it's made for 2 sources ->1 output (I'm looking for one input -> two sources). I suppose maybe it would work... the crosstalk figures for it look bad for a simple switchbox however, and it's probably using a common ground. Maybe I'll have to DIY something to actually keep the L & R grounds separate.

Edit -- might be worth buying and rewiring the Rat Shack box, if it can be opened... might give that a try as well, especially for that cheap. I think I'll drop by the Shack today and have a look around...

If only need one input to two outputs, why not pickup the vampire RCA splitters? Then you could output to both without any quality loss. I guess you could have a special need for a switch (seems unlikely, but possible) - in that case I'd think the rat shack switchbox could simply be run in reverse.
