So I've used open-backed headphones exclusively for a long time and love them. I use Sennheiser HD598s because I find sennheiser's comfort level unbeatable and the sound feels kind of mellow in a way that I can enjoy listening with them for long durations. I've tried the Beyerdynamic DT-990 250 OHM but found the clamping force a little too much and the sound got a bit exhausting.

Now I need a nice pair of light closed-back headphones for work that are more than anything gonna be comfortable for a big head, and sound great while being easy to listen to for long durations. Low impedance so it doesn't need to be driven. Cable longer than 2 feet or one of those pairs of cans where you can switch out the cables easily. Something in the $100-$300 range is what I'm looking for, but I'm willing to splurge if something is really worth it. Any recommendations? I've been having the hardest time finding something...

The Beyers have a metal headband you should be able to bend to comfort, but I guess it's too late for that.

Have you seen innerfidelity's list? http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/innerfidelitys-wall-fame-full-size-sealed
Haven't heard it myself but from what I have read Oppo PM3 seems like it should be in line with your requests, sound-wise at least.

Oh yeah? I still have my beyers so I'll check that out. Still, they're open-backed and I need close-backed for work.

I actually bought the Audio Technica ATH-M50x figuring I'd have found my bang-for-the-buck nirvana headphones. But sadly they felt almost on-ear and were very uncomfortable for me personally. But I loved the look and cable options though. Maybe they'd work for me if I swapped the earpads out for a nice soft velour, but I don't know if the opening is big enough to comfortably go around my ears. A shame, since everything else about them seems perfect.

The Oppo PM-3 look great actually and I've had my eye on them. I wasn't sure I wanted to shell out that kind of cash though unless I need to. Magnetic planar is very appealing though, but I almost feel if I'm gonna go that far maybe I should spend it on open-backed planars for home/recreational use.

Right now I'm using Sennheiser Urbanite XLs which are good for the price, but are trying way too hard to be beats. No one should try to be beats. Sennheiser HD 439s seemed like another good cheaper option but I've heard mixed things. B&O PLAY H6 looked right up my alley too, but again the higher price point.

I guess I'm really trying to find something in the $200 and under range that fits my needs, but if I can't I'll probably go with something in the higher price points that'll fit the bill.

If you want something cheaper than the Oppo PM-3, the next best option in terms of sound quality, IMO, is the NAD Viso HP50. Slightly darker and warmer than the PM-3 but more natural sounding to me. Comfort is a personal thing depending on head size and shape.
