So after the left channel of my Audéo PFE's died out after a good two year run, I'm in the market for some new portables. I've decided to go for headphones over IEMs this time around for a change of pace.

My at-home headphones are the rs1i's and as much as I would like to use them for daily commutes, I suspect they would leak way too much sound along with having to manage the long and unwiedly cable.

The possible candidates that I've rounded up so far:

  1. ATH-ESW9
  2. ATH-ESW10 (Dependent if a used pair pops up)
  3. Denon AH-A100

Also in consideration due to their widespread popularity:

  1. ATH-M50
  2. HD 25-1 II

To clarify, I'll be running them unamped through my Sansa Fuze.

HD25 hands down. If there's one closed can that has ever been compared to Grados, it's this one. Makes me want to try Grados, actually. :D

I would scratch the A100 off the list as it's signature is the opposite of the Grado and PFE. HD25 is a good option but may be a bit uncomfortable if you wear glasses. The ESW9 is a nice option as well if you can find a real pair. You might want to take a look at the Beyerdynamic DT1350.
