I have been looking for a good few weeks now trying to find a great pair of headphones to suit my needs of bass that won't overpower the whole audio. Although I love my bass, I also love great sound quality too!

I will mainly be using these headphones for Music and gaming however I don't want any gaming headsets because you just don't wear them outside. Wired or wireless doesn't really bother me as long as they sound amazing.

Price range is anywhere up to £300 ($470).

I have been looking at:
Sennhieser Momentum 2.0
Oppo PM-3
Sony MDR-XB950BT
Sennhieser URBANITE XL

And a few others as well and i just can't decide on a headphone??????

Any help and/or recommendation is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Josh

The PM-3 is good. Very detailed at all ranges, and it sounds great from an iPhone as well as from an amp. Bass response felt a bit weak to me, but I might be biased at the moment. See, I got my V-Moda Crossfade M-100 the same week that the PM-3 loaner arrived. I couldn't really tell which of the two was more detailed, but the M-100 has tons of bass. It also has a treble boost (so it's a V-shaped response), but the entire range sounds good.

I don't have experience with the Momentums or Urbanites, but I believe that the Momentums are supposed to sound better. On the other hand, I think the Urbanites (normal and XL) are designed to be a bit more comfortable in targeting the "headphones as fashion" market.

Anyway, look into the M-100. It's tons of fun.

Thanks for the help! I'll definitely give the M-100 a go. I'm hoping that although the bass is good, it doesn't ruin the mids and the highs?

The M100s have good sounding mids and highs, but there is a lot more bass relative to them. Definitely a bass heavy headphone. So depends on what you mean.

What I mean is, is the highs and lows terrible because of the amount of bass? I'm not sure how I explain this...

If you EQ'd down all the bass on the M100s so that the mids and highs were what you mainly heard, the mids and highs on the M100s are pretty good. But expect the bass to be very strong in comparison to the mids and highs. I find it a little too much, but someone heavily into lots of bass probably wouldn't.

If you still aren't sure, seems like you might want to wait and figure out how to communicate exactly what you are looking for. That's actually the hardest part of getting recommendations online--finding a common way to discuss what someone's needs are. For example, are there any headphones you have demoed where you could describe how the bass is relative to mids and highs for you?

Basically, I want a headphone that doesn't over-emphasise the highs, mids and lows, I want a pair of headphones that will give me good bass but will also give me good highs and lows? When playing games I want to be able to feel the explosions and feel lik I'm there and when I'm listening to music I want it to be fairly bassy and have good highs and mids?

If I'm not doing very well at explaining what I want then let me know and we can end this conversation.
tomorrow I am going into my city centre to talk to a "headphone expert" at richer sounds

Going to Richer Sounds and listening to some headphones is the best way to go. The problem is that what you described above means different things to different people. In other words, I might like less bass and more treble, but say the exact same things. Think of it this way. Two people might say that they like sweet cookies, yet one might find a particular cookie too sweet, another not sweet enough. So until they have a point of comparison, saying that they both like sweet cookies doesn't help.

However, if you can demo some headphones and say whether they have too much/good or bad bass, mids, and highs, then people who have heard the headphones you have demoed can help you.

I will put it this way...the M-100 is very accurate overall, but the loudness of each range is different. Everything is there, but at different volumes (bass is the loudest).

And as Cel said, the best way to figure this out is to try headphones. You can research this for days and still not get as much information as you would from a 5-minute listening session.

I would suggest trying the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro Plus. You can actually adjust the bass response on the headphones itself and you can customise them if you want to go out with them. And of course the sound is great. You can check out a review of them, here

PM-3 fits the bill of great bass, imo. Present and has some punch and detail, but is well controlled.  The planar magnetic tech does well here. Very good mids too, though I was missing the highs a little. But as always it depends, if you're looking for tremendously boosted bass, they may not work for you.

+1 on the PM-3 and the bass description - It not over-emphasized like the M-100s. I love M-100s for energetic music, but it sounds like the PM-3 would be a closer match to what joshdakin127 is looking for.
