Hey guys,

I've always been a fan of classical instruments, but unfortunately, never found many classical pieces that I really enjoyed. Of course, there were tons of bits and pieces I liked, as well as the background music to some Rap tracks that are very beautiful, but I'm now thinking of finding some real classical music.

I am completely clueless when it comes to classical music, but I'm selfishly hoping to get some recommendations on what you think I would like. As the title says, I'm looking for something that's just makes you slide back into your seat, close your eyes and just want to air-conduct with the powerful movement of highs and lows of the music.

A little example of popular modern song that I really like in this regard would be Kelley Clarkson's Addicted. Unfortunately, I'm at work so I don't have my collection to give more examples, but this one jumps right up there. Also, surprisingly, Rammstein's Mein Herz brennt off their Mutter CD has some very nice classical background.

If it helps any, I really like the violin and piano, and usually don't care much for vocals but of course, sweet female vocals never get in the way.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

if you look around, you'll find LOTS of threads matching your search here. thats how i figured out my list of favourites...

you'll definitely want to try
dvorak "from the new world" (harnoncourt) - there's simply noone who doesn't like it
schubert "death and the maiden" (emerson quartet) - intense, borderline out of control
korsakov "sheherazade" (Reiner) - ESPECIALLY "the story of the kalender prince", you'll love it
mozart requiem (Herreweghe) - vocal, ok, but so beautiful
verdi requiem (harnoncourt) - vocal, ok, but so powerful
schubert 8th (kleiber) - the unfinished, famous for a reason
mahler 2nd (kaplan) - a personal favourite, and incredible sound (well, like all of the recordings i listed)
etc.
etc.

let me know how you liked them. and don't forget about the search function...

Beethoven's "Kreutzer" sonata. My fave version is performed by Ashkenazy and Perlman.
