Snipe, recommendations for IEMs have much more to do with the type of sound you want vs. the player you are using.  I have found that my J3 will sound great almost no matter what earphone I use (within reason) -- I can make my $20 Philips phones sound almost as good as my $250 Etymotic ER4P -- the EQ system is that good.

If you really liked the sound of the S4, then you should look at the Brainwavz line in the same price range, as a starting place.

But, if you think, like I do, that the S4 is over-bloated in the bass region, and sizzling hot in the trebles, painfully so at times, then you will want to look at different IEMs that have a more balanced sound (Etymotic HF3, etc).  The new Brainwavz Delta may be something else to look at.

well i listen mostly to hip-hop/rap (none of the garbage on the radio today- the good stuff from the 90's/early 2000's) ... just throwing that out there, but honestly, i don't want ones that are too heavy on bass because i don't want to damage my eardrums lol

a more balanced sound would be nice, so im pretty interested in those etymotic monitors- looking at the MC5 in particular

my only real requirements are that they sound clean in all areas, and won't conduct cord noise as the cord rubs on your shirt or whatever- my S4s didn't do this but since then i've been using the $5 monitors that came with my nintendo DS, and man it drives me nuts

anyway, thanks for you response

Vsonic GR06. Its better than the S4 by a good amount.

Don't get an Ety if you liked the S4, they don't have much bass (though the Ety Kids might?). Seriously, out of the 10 or so IEMs I've owned, the S4 had the most bass and the Ety HF5s had the least.

Oh I just assumed bass since the S4 has decent bass and not much else.

Thread with reviews of 295 IEMs. S4 is rated a 6.7 while the GR06 is a 8.1. @ 99$, the Hifiman RE 400 is rated a 8.9 (ridiculously high for its price. For ex, the 400$ Sony EX1000 is a 9.3).
