As the subject states, I am looking for a relatively good, cheap amp to use with the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro headphones. I am going to be picking up a pair (most likely) And I have heard they "require" an amp. What would be a good one that is affordable, but is still decent.

By the way, sorry for my ignorance, I am really new to audio stuff and know little about it.

Do you the amp to be portable? What receivers / stereo do you have at home right now?

Yes, I want a portable amp, for use mostly with my iPod. As for the price, for sure less than 300, but hopefully more around 200 or even 100 if I can get a decent one for that price (which I doubt)

bahamut727, properly amping the DT770 is no trivial undertaking.

Regarding a portable amp, I'd suggest the following as a sort of minimum.

- 18 volt (2x9V) battery operation
- high gain
- special attention to opamp (and capacitor) selection
- DC jack for an external power source

It sounds like your best bet might be to contact Head-Fi member/moderator JMT. He's based in northern California.
