ok, first off, this is a great forum. i've read through it a lot, and enjoyed the reading. now let me explain my situation a bit. i'm looking for a set of cans primarily to use in bed. i won't be sleeping in them, but will spend a considerable amount of time "winding down" with them. they will be primarily used with my iphone/ipod/computer. i know this isn't the ideal way to power a set of them, but it's what's easy and convenient. i mostly listen to rock/alternative/hip hop and blues music. there won't be any classical playing through it. my hearing is not what it used to be, and it never was that good. i have some sennheiser in ear phones that are pretty nice, but don't really like the in ear type. i prefer the over the head type. here's the catch. my lady snores. and snores loud. (don't tell her that!) and she can fall asleep immediately upon the head hitting the pillow. as for me, i need to wind down for a while. and would like to do so with the help of music. a nice, comfortable set of headphones preferably. i've been eyeing the m50's, beats studio, xb500, and a couple other- some entry level senn's perhaps? i don't want to spend a whole lot, around 150 (the beats can be had for that, even though msrp is much higher). ability to isolate outside noise is important, but we're not looking to block out jet engines here (except when she's sick!). keeping the noise in is also important. comfort is important. i live in the middle of nowhere, so i can't run to my local store and try a couple out. i basically have to listen to your guys advice and come up with something, and hope for the best! thanks for any advice.

I have the M50's and they're great for pretty much everything. Solid all-around cans. As for comfort, I get some pressure around my head after awhile, but that might just be me.

agh, I'd tell you to get AD700s.
They were too big for my head (size 7), but they were very comfortable.
However, they are open and I'm not sure if they isolate well since I didnt have them very long

The AD700 barely isolate at all. There's only a mesh and light foam between the driver and the world. Also they're a bit large and tend to slip down if you are laying down.

Active noise cancelling would probably be good at removing snores. I don't recommend the MDR-NC60 though. I haven't heard any other ANC headphones but the ATH-ANC7 is said to be good.

i was checking out the anc7's on amazon a few days ago. the price was nice, but i read up on some reviews and heard the sound wasn't that great. what's everyones opinions on the shure srh240? sennheiser hd280? the dreaded bose brand? i wish i lived in a big city and could just go to the store and try a couple.
