Hi,

I am currtenly looking for a portable (it really should not be in the size of a home Hi-Fi device) DAC. It should be able to be powered either by net (220 volt) and battery power.

Apart of price it should produce as much "sound" as possible.

Any ideas or suggestions around?

Well there's not too much out there for actual portable DAC's. The D1 and Headroom's Micro DAC are the only commercially available portable or semi-portable DAC's that I know (Although the D1 is a combo DAC + amp it has all required inputs and can act as a standalone DAC). There are people who have built things like Monica2's with battery packs for portable use and I also know of at least one person who rigged up a battery pack to an Apogee.

I do think it's an emerging market where there will be more and more options but there may not be a real boon until there is a decent current production portable DAP with digital outputs for the idea to truly make sense.
